From time to time, the World Movement for Democracy issues alerts concerning participants and other colleagues who are, or may be, facing personal danger due to their work on behalf of democracy and for whom a vigorous response from around the world may be critical.

On September 12, 2008, three individuals, including a member of parliament, a blogger, and an independent journalist, were arrested under the Internal Security Act, which gives the police the right to detain individuals without trials.  Among the three arrested is MP Teresa Kok, who is a participant of the World Movement for Democracy.
