DemocracyAlert: Cuban Solidarity Day to Be Marked Worldwide on May 20

May 20th marks the 108th anniversary of Cuba’s independence from Spain.  Last year, in an unprecedented demonstration of solidarity, thousands used this day to express their commitment to freedom and democracy by standing in support of Cuba’s political prisoners. Over a hundred events in dozens of countries in every continent marked this day, launching a first-of-its-kind Global Cuba Solidarity Movement.  This year, the movement urges individuals and organizations to again take action to support Cuban Solidarity Day. Those interested are encouraged to show their support by organizing concerts, public demonstrations, marches, and vigils; targeting the international audience with opinion pieces; and joining the global movement on Facebook.
