    World Movement Participant Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja Interrogated in Bahrain

    Front Line reports that on January 9, Mr. Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, World Movement participant and Protection Coordinator for the Middle East at Front Line (excluding Bahrain), was interrogated for five hours at the Public Prosecutors Office in Bahrain about his human rights activities and then released on bail.  He was instructed not to change his address, which Front Line believes could mean that the authorities may take further action against Mr. Al-Khawaja.

    Front Line calls on the authorities in Bahrain to:

    • Guarantee the safety and freedom of movement of Mr. Al-Khawaja;
    • Put an end to all forms of discrimination and repression against human rights defenders and their organizations; and
    • Abide by the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which has been ratified by the government of Bahrain.
